About Lumbini Pilgrimage Tour
Lumbini Pilgrimage Tour is special tour is a pilgrimage to the revered birthplace of Buddha. Buddha was born in into a royal family with the name of Siddhartha Gautam. His mother Queen Maya, died shortly after his birth. Our Lumbini Tour takes us to the heart of history in the southern plains of Nepal.
This is our most popular tour for Buddhists and many non-Buddhists are also interested to make this pilgrimage. Lumbini is the site of an event over 2500 years ago. It was in Lumbini under a massive sal tree that Queen Maya gave birth a son on a full moon evening.
The ancient site is marked with a shrine and nearby is a pillar erected by the great emperor of India Ashoka as well as a pond and serene grounds in a natural setting.
The ancient grounds are a day’s scenic drive from Kathmandu or Pokhara. Temples have been built with international support from Buddhists around the world. The majestic design and architecture are unique to each temple and the part of the world its supporters are from.
A highlight of the tour is a museum with ancient artifacts and a nearby Japanese shrine similar to the Peace Pagoda in Pokhara. Both are built for world peace and surrounded by serene gardens.
As the birthplace of Buddha, Lumbini is one of four sacred sites for Buddhist devotees. It is the only one of the four sites located in Nepal. The other three are across the border in India and are the following: Bodh Gaya (site of Buddha’s enlightenment), Sarnath (a site where Buddha gave his first teaching), and Kushinagar (a site where Buddha passed away to Nirvana).
Our Lumbini tour includes round-trip ground transportation to and from Kathmandu and Pokhara as well as a two-night hotel stay.
The tour covers everything from religious sites to natural and historical treasures with informative descriptions by our specialist, a resident and seasoned guide from the local area.
