The Annapurna Region gained more popularity after the first successful ascent of the Annapurna I in 1950 by a French expedition led by Maurice Herzog, as it was recorded as the first peak over 8,000 meters to be submitted. With the enhancement of Tourism in Nepal during the 1960s, trekking routes like the Annapurna Circuit became more accessible and popular.

Best Time to Trek

The Annapurna Circuit Trek can be done throughout the year, enjoy the favorable conditions with impressive views of surrounding mountain peaks, mostly during the time of Spring and Autumn. Trekking during this time is considered to be the best time for adventure enthusiasts to catch a glimpse of the Mighty peaks and surrounding natural scenery.

  • Spring (March to May): The spring season is known to be the best time to make your Annapurna Circuit Trek, as navigating during this time rewards you with lush green subalpine forests covered by Rhododendron trees. The weather is also predictable and does not fluctuate much, making it the most favorable season to make your trek. During this time, you get a magnificent view of mountains which are less disturbed with few clouds. The higher you reach, the temperature remains stable, making it a demanding season for trekking in the Annapurna region.
  • Autumn (September to November): The Autumn season is the best time to witness snow-capped mountains and impressive vistas of the surroundings. Autumn starts in early September and ends around mid to late November, during which the temperature starts to decrease as the winter season approaches. During the Autumn seasons, the weather is very favorable as there are no sudden changes in weather, with clear blue skies and visible glimpses of the mountain peaks. As you approach higher, there is a slight decrease in the temperature, making the surroundings colder in comparison to lower elevations. Autumn is regarded to be the busiest trekking season, so trails and tea houses are mostly packed with trekkers, which makes the accommodation prices higher due to more demand.
  • Monsoon (June to August): Monsoon is known to be the best time with fewer trekkers, as making your journey to higher altitude is risky. During this time, there is a high chance of rainfall, which makes the trail slippery and increases the risk of landslides. The mountain views are also blocked by clouds and mist. Because of the heavy rainfall, Monsoon is not recommended season to trek in the Annapurna region. However, the surrounding vegetation is more lush and vibrant due to the rainfall.
  • Winter (December to February): Making your way to the Annapurna Circuit at the time of Winter is possible with a less crowded trekking route. The views seen from the top make your journey rewarding with snow-capped landscapes and mountains. However, as you increase higher, the temperature drops significantly, especially at higher altitudes, making the trek challenging. Sometimes, due to heavy snowfall, the trail can be blocked, which makes the route impassable for trekkers. During this time, many tea houses in higher elevations may be closed due to colder temperatures and heavy snowfall.
